A living list of albums I consider perfect.
After listening to music passionately for years, I can say I listened to hundreds and hundreds, maybe even thousands of albums. However, not all of them were really good. There were some boring ones, some terrible ones, some good ones, some amazing ones, and then there were the best ones. Those are the records that I consider to be a perfect 10/10, and there is 23 of them.
Radiohead is a band that needs no introduction. Over the years, they solidified themselves as one of the most beloved and greatest outlets in modern music history, rightfully so. In their rich career they put out numerous incredible albums (maybe another one of theirs will be a part of my 10/10s, who knows?), but "OK Computer" in my opinion stands at the top.
Incredible singing, amazing instrument work, thoughtful lyrics as well as a great, timeless concept are all at the core of this LP. The first thing that draws your attention to this project is the cover art—simple yet beautiful. The dominant colors, blue and white, really go well with how the music on this record actually sounds. Tracks like "Exit Music (For a Film)," "Let Down," "Paranoid Android," "Karma Police," and "No Surprises" are all generation-defining songs, ones that will never be forgotten or not cherished. My favorite part of this record are its boiling points, you know, when everything goes crazy. The incredible crescendo in "Exit Music," the final chorus of "Let Down," and the guitar solo in "Electioneering" are some of those moments, to name a few. Emotions are present in each and every song here. Of course they are—it’s Radiohead—but on this record, those emotions feel very real, especially now in 2025. A world in which no human has any time for emotions, a world in which every human has to be perfect, like a clock. A world where humans are no longer humans, they are machines. That’s the world "OK Computer" creates and builds on, and horrifyingly enough, it really reminds me of the time we live in right now. If you somehow didn’t already listen to this masterpiece, please do yourself a favor and put it on.
Sigur Rós is an Icelandic rock band that fuses beautiful elements of post-rock, ambient music, and dream pop, all into one big bowl of bliss. "Takk..." maybe isn’t usually considered their magnum opus, but in my opinion it isn’t only that, it’s also one of the best, prettiest, greatest albums ever made.
Apart from being unique because of their sound, Sigur Rós also stand in a league of their own because of their choice of words, or actually, lack of real words. They sing in a made-up language called "Hopelandic," which harmonizes with the melody and rhythm of their music. This language allows the band to express emotions and sounds that traditional language often cannot convey. Their vocals often blend this invented language with Icelandic, creating a distinctive sound that enhances their ethereal and atmospheric music. Trust me, even though it’s made up, I’ve cried multiple times to their songs. Not because I’m sad, they just are so beautiful. "Milano" is a song that always gets me emotional when I listen to it. The singer’s voice sounds like pure nostalgia, but not any kind of nostalgia, the one you have for something that didn’t even happen at all. "Hoppípolla" is a song that sounds like pure love. It gives you a feeling that I can’t quite describe, like you are a child again, or like someone looks you in the eyes and you feel overwhelming amounts of love. Insane riffs and crazy build-ups are also a part of this project. They come out of nowhere, leaving you paralyzed once they hit. Those big sound moments only make listening to this project even more emotional, as you get pulled out of your body and your soul goes on a journey of pure bliss.
Legendary French duo that changed electronic music forever, and their final album, are up next. "RAM" is not your standard Daft Punk record, it’s a metamorphosis. A robot turned into a human.
When I first listened to this entire album, my jaw dropped. Of course I heard multiple songs off of it, such as "Get Lucky" and "Instant Crush," but the whole experience of listening to this album, from start to finish, is something I will never forget. It simply has everything: tearjerkers, high-tempo bangers, radio anthems, and rock energy. "Instant Crush" has everything I just mentioned, making it my favorite from this LP, and it’s definitely in my top 3 favorite tracks by Daft Punk. Other highlights are tracks such as the incredible "Touch," "Giorgio by Moroder," "Lose Yourself to Dance," and "Within." The first and last songs I mentioned are the two most emotional tracks Daft Punk ever made, alongside "Something About Us," of course.
Keeping the French theme, the next album I want to talk about is this juggernaut of a project by the one and only Gojira. "From Mars to Sirius" is a death metal / progressive metal album that is for sure going to leave you feeling like you just got hit by a truck.
Try imagining a thunderstorm, where instead of rain, fire falls down on earth, that’s how this album sounds. Filled with powerful riffs, explosive drums, as well as some beautiful moments of instrumentation, this record is considered by many to be the best death metal album ever, for a reason. "Flying Whales" is by far the most crushing song on here. The amazing intro is what starts this thing off. It lasts a bit longer than 2 minutes, and after those 2 minutes, every instrument in the band starts sounding brutal. Incredibly brutal. The lead singer’s voice creates an amazing atmosphere, especially in that breakdown. "Global Warming," the closer, is the polar opposite. Yes, it’s still heavy, but it’s more than death metal. However, the song is a banger anyway. The hypnotizing guitar riff is the absolute highlight of it.
It doesn’t matter if you are a fan of the Drain Gang aesthetic or not, this album is a must-listen. I’m convinced you hear this album when you go to heaven.
"Crest" is not that celebrated by Drain Gang fans. Both Ecco and Bladee abandon their usual style of rap and focus on creating an ethereal project. They’ve only gone and done it. Beautiful synths, awesome bass lines, and drums are what every beat on this album consists of. Something that often gets overlooked in DG projects are the lyrics, so if anyone decides to listen to this, please don’t let the beautiful production distract you, read the lyrics. Both Ecco and Bladee deliver here, but Ecco does his parts slightly better. I mean, songs like "The Flag Is Raised," "White Meadow," "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" are all that good because of him. Bladee was the star man on tracks "Faust" and "Chaos Follows." While I understand why some DG fans don’t like this album, I find it to be perfect, and I’m an OG drainer...
To close this part of me talking about my 10/10 albums, we are looking at possibly the greatest album of all time. I think that this album is how music is meant to sound, how music is meant to be made.
Godspeed are absolute legends in the world of music nerds. They are a band that has yet to release an album that isn’t good. They’ve been around for more than 30 years. This record has 4 songs, and its run time is a little less than an hour and a half. I can’t pinpoint a single highlight from this record, there are countless of them. Every second of it is a highlight, in my opinion. It’s a cinematic masterpiece, as well as a musical one, of course. A once-in-a-lifetime type of album, with a sound I’m sure is never going to be made again.
By many, this is the current album of the century, and to be honest, I might agree. This record has a really unique sound, as well as an amazing vocal and lyrical performance from the ex-front man of the band, Isaac Wood.
It’s hard to try and explain why this album is this good. It just is. All of the members of BCNR absolutely crushed their parts. In each and every song, they find a way to keep surprising and impressing you with their unorthodox way of building songs up, as well as the general structures of the tracks, that are like no other. Highlights of this record are all around us, from incredible instrumentation in “Good Will Hunting”, crushing riffs in “Haldern”, to the pure emotional heaviness of “The Place Where He Inserted The Blade”. A song that has all of that and even more is one of my all-time favorites, the closer of this album, “Basketball Shoes”. A 12-minute monster of a track that leaves you speechless once it’s finished, making you want to replay the entire album from start to finish.
This is a record that often gets overlooked in discussions about the “best metal album of all time.” I don’t know why. On “Lateralus”, Tool brought the most to the table they ever did, resulting in the sound of this album being so damn good.
Running for a little over an hour, this album is the perfect length. Not too short to leave you wanting more, not too long to bore you. From its very start, you can hear that this isn’t going to be your everyday metal album. That first impression is absolutely right—what everyday metal album has insane songs like “The Patient”, “Schism”, “Parabola” or “Lateralus”? None. Those and other songs on this LP are what separate it from the competition. No band at that time was capable of creating such tracks. And no band today, either.
If you want to know how it feels to be a snowflake and fall down onto the ground, where you eventually melt and turn to water, listen to this project.
Yes, it’s long. It’s a Natural Snow Buildings album, of course it’s long. But don’t get scared by the two-and-a-half-hour runtime, it passes much quicker. Go outside at night and walk while listening to this. It will be the best walk of your entire life. I promise. NSB is a legendary band, rightfully so. Their discography is so rich, filled with amazing, consistent albums that they released year after year after year. It all clicked here though, in my opinion, which is why I consider this album their best, and also one of the best of all time.
It’s more of a movie than an album. Kendrick’s storytelling is like no other, truly making you feel like you were there with him growing up in Compton.
Even though his 2015 record is rightfully looked at as his best, “GKMC” is up there with the highly celebrated “To Pimp A Butterfly”. Hardcore beats, unique deliveries, club bangers, best rap song of all time… This album has it all. Filled with tracks that can convert a rap hater into a fan. If “Lift Your Skinny Fists” is how rock should sound, then “GKMC” is how rap should sound. You can listen to any random track from this record and be impressed, but if you want the best possible experience, listen to it from start to finish. It has an amazing story, one that you would hate to miss. Oh, and the best rap song that is on this record? You might wonder which one it is. Could it be “m.A.A.d city”? Maybe it’s “Swimming Pools”? Or could it be “Sing About Me, I’m Dying of Thirst”? You decide.
An ex-YouTuber made a 10/10 album? Yeah, damn right he did.
If the appearance of “Crest” shocked you, then this entry probably will too. But don’t worry, I was even more shocked when I heard this album for the first time. I was even more surprised when, after giving time for my emotions to settle, I realized that this is in fact a truly 10/10 album. The entire project is self-produced, Quadeca did it all. It makes the sound even more impressive. This album also has a pretty interesting concept: it’s from the POV of a ghost. So yeah, Quadeca maybe didn’t want to haunt you, but this album definitely is haunting. “Fractions of Infinity”, “Don’t Mind Me” and “Born Yesterday” are probably the most haunting ones, as well as “Knots”. This album combines elements of folk, art pop, alternative rock and hip hop amazingly, giving it a very, very rich sound palette, one that, at least I, haven’t heard before.
Of course it’s here. How could it possibly not be included in anyone’s 10/10 list? This project is probably the most widely accepted 10/10 album ever. It’s universally loved for its amazing and timeless sound.
A 52-year-old album that sounds fresh even today. How is that even possible? I have no idea. I just know that this album has some of the best song progressions ever. There isn’t a single missed detail here; every sound is there for a reason. If aliens ever visit us, I would show them this album just so they know what humans were capable of half a century ago. “Time”, “The Great Gig in the Sky” and “Us and Them” are some of the most mind-blowing tracks I have heard in my life. It’s crazy to me how someone even thought about making such songs, let alone actually creating them. Bravo to Pink Floyd.
A true rock classic, one that often gets overlooked by their most popular project „In The Court Of The Crimson King“, but is just as good, if not better.
Having only 5 tracks and lasting just under 40 minutes, „Red“ is a fairly easy listen on the first hand. However, once you actually start listening to it, you will see just how much extraodinary it is. I promise you, you will be torn to pieces by its otherwordly sound and beauty. If you somehow arent by the first 4 tracks, the closer, „Starless“ is for sure going to finish you off. Guitars could always sound like they do on „Red“, only if there was more musicians talented enough to make them create a sound that they created on this mesmarazing project.
Is there even a word beautiful enough to describe this record?
Sufjan creates an unreal, unmathced atmosphere on here, his insane worldbuilding abbility, as well as his soft, pretty voice, mixed with amating instrumentation result in an album with an astonousing sound. So easy to listen to, until you hear the lyrics, then it gets a bit hard. An incredibly good story is being told in this record, so when you listen to it, i encourege you to follow the lyrics closely.
What is there left to be said about this juggernaut of an album? One of the most celebrated rock releases of this century.
Swans are legends, there is no need to waste words on that, but this project is something else, even for them. A true powerhouse, a force to be reckoned with. It has everything, energy, saddness, philosophy, insane riffs, vocals, progressions… It one of the best strucored records ever, which is ultimetely this albums biggest strenght. „Oxygen“, „Screen Shot“ and „A Little God In My Hands“ are my personal favorites, but every song is a valid pick.
A genre defying album, once in a genaration type of sound, production and delivery from Charli.
Back in 2020 when everything stopped, Charli decided to make pop go further, a lot further. This record means a lot to me, i have been listening to it for those 5 years, every single week, at least one song from this amazing LP would find a way into my playlist. Otherwordly production and her soft but also robotic voice created a truly insane sound, something that has never ever been done before. „Detonate“ is, in my opinion, her best song, this album also offers amazing songs like „Enemy“, „Pink Diamond“, „7 Years“, „Forever“, „Anthems“, Visions“… literally every song is perfect.
Radiohead makes their second appearance in this list, with one of the best pure rock albums of all time.
“In Rainbows” is a record that successfully fused emotion with despair, creating an unforgettable experience. “Nude”, “Jigsaw Falling” and “All I Need”, to name the few, are tracks that are like no other, ever. This album is probably bands most celebrated work, which is hard to accomplish, since they have one of, if not the richest discography out there, in all of music.
An album of despair and tragedy, that only happens to sound amazing and otherworldly.
An album which makes you forget you are alive, but also makes you forget the fact that you can die. While you listen to it, you forget about everything. Its sound and “rural” like production occupy every part of your brain, forcing you to give in. “Blackhole”, “I Don't Love” and “Earthmover” are not only the highlights of this project, but of all of the music.
I'm lucky to own this record on vinyl, since the band boycotted all streaming platforms. Before its too late, buy their music. You don't want to miss out on this.
It is unreal how much emotions they can bring out of people, simply by playing the instruments. Without any words. This band is one of my all time favorites ever since I heard the opener of this project, “Mladic”. That song is a 20 minute juggernaut that melts your brain. Insane guitar riffs, drum work, strings… this song has it all. Just like “We Drift Like Worried Fire” except that one is a bit more brutal, whilst “Mladic” is a tad bit more “low-key”.
Older, more emo brother of “Random Access Memories”, that's how this album should have been called.
French duo made some of the most impressive, thought provoking electronic music on this one right here. We got to see their emotions for the first ever here, on songs like “Face To Face” as well as on the legendary “Something About Us”. “Digital Love” is probably their most fun, rock inspired track up to date, while tracks such as “One More Time” and “ Harder, Faster, Better, Stronger” still get constant air time on every radio station in the world.
An almost 30 year-old album that still sounds futuristic. How is that even possible?
Bjork is an artist that I think concurred the whole of pop. There is nothing left for her to try and achieve, she did it all. She did it the best on this record right here, where she wrote her best, most creative lyrics, whilst singing on an instrumental that has been produces to perfection. There isn't a single wasted second on this project, its like a giant puzzle, where every piece did its part in creating this massive masterpiece.
This album is much more than just that. It's a cultural reset awakening you could say,
I always feel dumb when I try to talk about this record. I just don't know where to start. The songs are amazing, lyrics are out of this world, word play is incredible, production is too good to be true, concept of it amazing. Literally just pick your poison, this LP has it all. I mean, it has a god-damn poem that progresses through the story of this album… Unbelievable. There will never be another “To Pimp A Butterfly”.
If someone asks you to name a record that you think is the best of all time, say it's this one. It's a super safe choice, rightfully so.
All of the best things you know about Pink Floyd shine the brightest (haha) on this album right here. In its 44 minute long run-time, this album makes you wish it was 44 hours long. It's filled with the best guitar work I've heard in my life, amazing progressions and unique, as well as thought provoking, story telling. The intro and the closer of this LP are its best songs, obviously.
