Geese — Getting Killed

Geese — Getting Killed cover

A step forward, for sure, but I still don't know if it's in the right direction. Creativity is for sure present on "Getting Killed", sometimes there's even too much creativity. I can't really understand what the band wanted to do with this record, it for sure isn't just an 11 track long "playlist" type of an album, but I just don't have any idea what the whole concept is, even after listening to this album multiple times. It kinda reminds me of "Stranger" by Albert Camus, because of its "ambient" (mainly because of the cover art to be honest) and it also provokes the same feeling "The Trial", a novel written by Kafka, made me feel.

"The Trial" is an interesting book that doesn't have the begging and it also doesn't have the end. It's about everything but also nothing, just like this LP. A giant mess of everything that results in an interesting, pointless, creative and boring album. Truly unique. However, with "Getting Killed" Geese prove that they are still getting better, only leaving us patiently waiting for more craziness in the future.

Overall score: 60/100

glaive — Y'all

glaive — Y'all cover

Recently, Jane Remover said that she did not collab with 2hollis yet... How does this album exists then...?

glaive is an artist I heard of but never actually sat down and listened to. I gotta say, his takes on edm, rage and digi-core are really unique. A lot of people got pissed of when I said Lucy Bedroque was trash, they are. Lucy makes music for kids that eat rocks and drink acid. On the other hand, glaive makes music for nonchalant beasts, like me. I know you can't really compare them two, I only did because this is the most underground album I listened to since "Unmusique" by Lucy. Back to "Y'all", this record also explores a bit of indie rock, emo, pop, but it's main genre is digi-core or edm. Even though it has 16 tracks, listening to this album is super-duper easy. It's very easy to just relax and listen to this, without your ears ringing after each song finishes. One thing that holds this record back is the fact that glaive sometimes sounds to much like his inspirations. "Veni Vidi Vici" sounds exactly like 2hollis. His vocals on "We Don't Leave the House" are really similar to Jane Remover, maybe even Brakence. Still, I did not expect to come out of this album this satisfied. The production is godly, his voice always sounded good, and while there were some boring songs, not even one of them were truly that bad. Can't wait to listen to his future work, for sure has potential to make something amazing.

Overall score: 70/100

Doja Cat — Vie

Doja Cat — Vie cover

Who would have thought Doja Cat would have released the best album of this week? I for sure would not. But, you gotta give it to her. "Vie" is her most consistent album she released thus far. She combines her amazing pop vocals with great verses. She also doesn't try to be something she's not. Each and every track is filled with her personality. Goofy bars here and there remind us that she is still the same artist that made the "Moo" song back in the day. I feel like she really found her ground on this record. After blowing up on tik tok back in 2019/20, Doja has been trying to find, not only her sound, but also her personality. "Vie" combines the cuteness of "Planet Her" and "Hot Pink" with hard hitting elements of "Scarlet", making this album be her best, most unique record up to date, by far. "Gorgeous" is probably my pop song of the year. My God. It's so good. The production is perfect, her vocals are amazing, those two verses also. This song also has the most personal lyrics from Doja we have heard so far. She dwells back on her career, how many things changed since she started being in public eyes, as well as flexing her own growth. "All Mine" has the best vocal performance by Doja yet, I really had no idea she could sing like that, I almost started floating. It's only right for the next song, "Take Me Dancing", to have a SZA feature, keeping the trend of angelic vocals going. But Doja and SZA kill their parts, continuing their streak of making bangers when they team up. "Come Back", the closer, is not some sort of a grand finale, sonically speaking. But emotionally, "Come Back" is a truly grandiose way to finish an album. Minimalistic production the song sound just like sun, while Doja's vocals awfully remind me of Caroline Polachek on some instances. There are some songs that feel like filler tracks, and that's the only reason why "Vie" isn't an instant pop classic in my opinion. Apart from that, this really is a more then valid effort from Doja Cat.
